MIT Design Hackathon

A couple of friends and I participated in a design hackathon working to chreate a voice/sound sensing decorative LED frame. Our intent was to design an attractive brushed Acrylic wall decoration and to integrate a light sensing LED system, in 12 hours.

Unfortunatley I don't have a picture of the the finished project but around the edges of the frame, hidden under the black boarder, were a series of LEDs wired to a sound detector. Based on the frequency of sound sensed by the sound detector, the LEDs flashed and glowed in different colors. We placed the LEDs at the edges of the Acrylic waves behind the black plastic frame, so similarly to fiber optic decorations, the edges of the waves lit up. (see example image of fiber optics below)  We also roughened the wave faces to diffuse more of the light outwards towards the front of the frame and towards the viewer.
